After attending teaching method during sem I, reflex on problems/ improvements in teaching and learning in a one topic.ate

Suggest a strategy/ method in teaching to solve the problems.

Topic: Gas exchange in respiratory system (Physiology)

Problems in learning process:

1. Difficult to make students understand the concept of partial pressure.
2. When students failed to grab the concept, where the partial pressure is the heart of gas exchange mechanisms.
3. Students should understand the pressure of different gases.

Problems in teaching process:

1. Teacher assumes that students already familiar with respiratory system; because they have been learned about that earlier.
2. The way of teaching is less interesting and failed to grab students’ attention.
3. No variation in teaching aids (no video)

Strategy to solve the problems:

1. Teacher needs to reflect previous topic that related to the current topic.
2. Teacher must master the topic by not relying heavily on the textbook but read more for deeper understanding.
3. Teacher needs to think critically and creatively in building highly effective teaching aids.

Eg: Video sometimes cannot help/ irrelevant because of:

a) Complexity

b) Pace of the video

c) The display quality

d) The accent of the narrator

To improve

a) Complexity – search for another video or do video by yourself

b) Pace of the video – control the pacing

c) Display quality – search for another video

d) Accent of the narrator – edit by replace by teacher’s voice
